Dissertation Short Film

‘Tea, Please.’ was my final year project that I conceived and began developing. The idea was ambitious, a silent, 3-minute, 2D animated short telling the tale of an elderly man with dementia, trying his best to make himself his morning tea.

The film has a heavy focus on the specific nostalgia around grandparents, particularly British grandparents, as the film is based on my own family. It was drawn in Clip Studio Paint Ex as I wanted a homemade spirit that I thought would be better achieved with raster layers over vector. Below are the foundational pieces of the world I’m trying to render. The project is still ongoing.

Utilising my pre-production materials, I have been able to work through this film incrementally. Here are a collection of shots I collated to give an impression of the short’s image.

Here is a collection of animation tests to hone my character animation principles, including giving ‘character’ to inanimate objects through movement. Simple concepts shown through 2D drawings done in Clip Studio Paint.
